[ Tinydeal Technology News]According to Tinydeal, Apple is advancing its foldable screen development by dividing the project among different panel companies. Samsung Display will likely develop product panels for foldable mobile phones, and LG Display will focus on foldable screen IT product panels.
According to industry insiders on June 4, Apple foldable screen development recently involved sending requests for information (RFI) to Samsung Display and LG Display. Although the specifications are not yet finalized, Apple is working with the two Korean panel companies on separate folding screen projects. Samsung Display is focusing on foldable mobile phone panels, while LG Display is handling folding screen IT products.
Korean media report that Apple plans to launch a 7-inch (second half) to 8-inch (early) folding screen product as its first device. Many believe this model will resemble a folding-screen iPhone. It will likely be similar in size to the 8.3-inch iPad mini. Samsung Display is currently developing this panel. If current trends continue, Samsung may become the exclusive supplier of panels for Apple’s foldable products. This is due to its strong mass production experience and manufacturing capabilities.
Reports suggest Apple has not yet decided on the product’s folding style. It may feature either a horizontal fold or a vertical flip. Samsung Display is preparing responses for both designs.
On the other hand, LG Display is developing an IT product project for folding screens. The screen size after unfolding is 10 inches, which is speculated to be an iPad product. It will likely use the same system as the existing iPad. Korean media said that LG Display is also co-developing folding screen IT product projects with some partners.
Apple informed the two panel companies that it cannot launch folding screen products unless they eliminate the crease in the UTG center of the folding screen panel.

There is speculation that Apple’s first folding screen product could launch between 2026 and 2027. However, many believe a 2026 release is unlikely due to Apple’s current business priorities. The earliest expected launch is 2027. This year marks the 20th anniversary of Apple’s first iPhone and the 10th anniversary of the first OLED iPhone.
