It fell by 29% compared with the same quarter! Global PC shipments in the first quarter were 56.9 million

[Tinydeal News]Recently, major computer manufacturers have released their latest financial reports, and revenue data generally declined. The main reason for the decline is that PC sales declines exceed market expectations, especially in the consumer market. In fact, not only some companies have performed poorly, but from the perspective of the PC industry, the global PC market has shrunk in 2022. At the same time, the overall environment in 2023 is still not optimistic. Most market-based institutions expect the PC market to experience negative growth in 2023, and may decline by about 10%, mainly because of the recent sluggish global consumer confidence that the estimated data has declined.

It fell by 29% compared with the same quarter! Global PC shipments in the first quarter were 56.9 million

Recently, Tinydeallearned from data released by International Data Corporation (IDC) that global PC shipments in the first quarter were 56.9 million units, a 29% decrease compared with the same quarter in 2022. IDC said weak demand, overstock and deteriorating macroeconomic environment are all factors that led to a sharp decline in traditional PC shipments in the first quarter of 2023.

IDC expects shipments to fall again by 9.8% in 2023 as unsold inventory and sluggish demand dragged the market down. There should be a slight recovery in 2024, and as inventory improves, shipments will exceed pre-epidemic levels. After 2024, IDC expects the market to stabilize further based on the larger installation base and growth of gaming monitors created by the hybrid work.

In fact, the PC market has declined since 2012, but compared with the continued decline in the mobile phone market, the shipments of the PC market were basically at the same level in the years before the outbreak of the epidemic, and were in a relatively stable state, except from 2020 to 2021.

The market growth in the past two years from 2020 to 2021 is not because the product has undergone a disruptive upgrade, but because of the objective reason for the global epidemic. The demand for remote office and online classes for students has suddenly increased, which has stimulated a wave of PC consumption among enterprises and individuals, and a wave of phone replacement has emerged. This has allowed PC manufacturers to enjoy the market dividends and have achieved growth for two consecutive years. From this point of view, the demand stimulated by the epidemic will inevitably weaken as the impact of the epidemic gradually weakens, and consumers' demand for PCs is limited.
