iPad Air M2 GPU Mislabeling: Performance Claims Remain Accurate

[ Tinydeal Technology News]Apple recently mislabeled the GPU core number of the iPad Air M2 chip on its official website, listing it as 10 cores instead of the actual 9 cores. Despite this error, the performance claims Apple shared at the MacBook Air launch event and in marketing materials are accurate.

Apple responds to iPad parameter mislabeling: Although the number of cores is mislabeled, the performance description is accurate

In a statement provided to the media, Apple confirmed that the iPad Air performance details were always based on a 9-core GPU. They stated, “We are updating the official website to correct the core number of the M2 version of iPad Air. All performance claims about the M2 version of iPad Air are accurate and are based on a 9-core GPU.” According to Apple’s website, the M2 chip is nearly 50% faster than the previous generation, with its graphics performance 25% faster.

Apple also updated the technical specifications for the M2 version of the iPad Air, confirming that it has a 9-core GPU. Previously, the website listed a 10-core GPU. This change is surprising, considering the previous generation iPad Pro had a 10-core GPU, while the iPad Air is limited to 9 cores.

Other specifications of the M2 chip remain the same. The iPad Air features an 8-core CPU, with four performance cores and four efficiency cores. It also has 8GB of RAM and a 16-core NPU.

Apple took several days to correct the chip error on its website. As a result, some users may have purchased the iPad Air thinking it had a 10-core GPU. Those who bought it on launch day have passed the two-week return period. However, customers believe they have a valid reason for requesting a return.
