On September 23, Tinydeal learned that according to the latest forecast from market analysis agency DSCC, shipments of high-end notebook computer panels will rebound significantly in 2024, approaching the historical high in 2022. This growth is mainly driven by organic light-emitting diode (OLED) and mini light-emitting diode (Mini LED) products, with full-year shipments expected to exceed 15 million units.
DSCC pointed out in its latest report that the high-priced laptop panel market experienced adjustments last year. This was due to lower-than-expected demand. However, the market has rebounded significantly this year. Full-year shipments are expected to increase by 36% compared to 2023. This growth is mainly driven by the product replacement cycle, updates to Microsoft operating systems, and emerging demands like artificial intelligence computers.
Mini LED panels are expected to take up 56% of the market share. Shipments are projected to reach 8.9 million to 9 million units. OLED panels will occupy the remaining 44%, with shipments expected to reach 6.9 million to 7 million units.
In the first half of the year, the enterprise notebook computer market showed signs of recovery. Shipments of high-priced notebook panels increased by 35% year-on-year in the second quarter. However, there was a month-on-month decrease. OLED panel growth is particularly notable. Shipments of OLED panels increased by 65% year-on-year. Mini LED panels saw a year-on-year growth of 20%.
In the OLED notebook market, manufacturers like ASUS, Lenovo, HP, and Samsung Electronics are key players. In the mini LED market, Apple holds a strong position with its MacBook series. Acer, Asus, MSI, Gigabyte, and Lenovo are also promoting mini LED laptops.
On the supply chain side, Samsung Display leads in the OLED panel market. For MacBook mini LED panels, suppliers include LG Display and Sharp. Companies like AUO and BOE also supply mini LED panels to other brands.
DSCC forecasts that by 2028, the shipment and sales share of high-priced notebooks will reach double digits. As technology advances and consumer demand grows, some high-end notebook panels companies plan to expand their OLED production lines. This includes Apple’s OLED MacBook, which is expected in 2026 and will boost market growth.
