According to the latest research report from TrendForce, consumers have become more cautious in spending. It is expected that global notebook computer shipments will reach 173.65 million units in 2024, an increase of 3.7% compared with 2023. Tinydeallearned that this growth will be mainly driven by demand from the entry-level consumer market and the education market.
TrendForce pointed out that the industry plans to launch several compelling AI laptops in the second half of 2024. However, their high prices may delay consumer purchases. As a result, the significant impact of AI models on the supply chain is expected in 2025. By then, driven by replacement demand in the business sector, global notebook computer shipments are projected to increase by 5% year-on-year.
In recent years, the global supply chain landscape has undergone significant changes. Due to rising labor costs and other factors, notebook computer brands are seeking to diversify their supply chain layout. These manufacturers gradually moved their production chains to Vietnam and Thailand.
According to TrendForce, Dell and Apple’s active layout is expected to help Vietnam’s notebook computer OEM proportion reach 6% by 2024. Meanwhile, Thailand is emerging as a rising star. Thanks to close cooperation between HP and Quanta, and Inventec joining production in the second half of the year, Thailand’s share of global notebook computer production will grow rapidly to 2.3%.
TrendForce also predicts that the proportion of global laptop supply chain shifts will reach 12.4% in 2024. Global notebook computer production is moving in a more diversified and flexible direction.
