[Tinydeal News]Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), said Apple's rumored new MacBook Air is still expected to be launched in April.
Young previously said that Apple's supply chain is already producing display panels for the new 15-inch MacBook Air model. The 15-inch MacBook Air will have the largest screen to date on the MacBook Air, and Young now reiterates that he expects the upcoming MacBook Air to debut in early April, but we'll likely see an announcement sometime in March and start pre-orders.
Apple's current 13-inch MacBook Air was launched in July 2022, and Apple announced the news at WWDC in June. The notebook is powered by Apple's M2 chip and is manufactured using TSMC's 5nm process.
No one seems to know exactly which chip the 15-inch MacBook Air will be equipped with, whether it is M2 or M3, because there are everything on the Internet. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said the 15-inch MacBook with M2 and M2 Pro chips will be available sometime in the second quarter of 2023 and may not have an Air model.
Generally speaking, the MacBook Pro series has a larger display, so the MacBook Air with a 15-inch display will be a considerable upgrade. Additionally, a larger screen means a larger chassis, which may mean a larger battery.
Earlier today, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said he expects Apple to release updated 13-inch MacBook Air and 15-inch versions of the MacBook Air in late spring or summer. Gurman said the biggest question is which chip will be used in the new laptop.
Gurman said Apple may use its next unreleased M3 chip to power the new MacBook Air. The new M3 chip may use TSMC's new 3nm manufacturing process, and the performance should be improved. The current 13-inch MacBook Air uses Apple M2 chips and is manufactured using TSMC's 6nm process. Gurman says the 15-inch MacBook Air with the M2 chip “may still excite consumers”, but it “will be outdated soon” as the M3 chip is about to come out.
As for what we expect from other Mac models, Gurman said Apple won't launch a new 24-inch iMac until the end of 2023 at the earliest. He does not expect Apple to release an iMac equipped with M2, but chooses to wait for the M3 chip. Gurman said he saw no sign that the new iMac would have an M2 chip built in. “So if you want to stick with your iMac, you have to sit firmly (wait first).
The last time iMac was released was in April 2021, with an M1 chip built-in. The new iMac will receive a major update with a new ultra-slim design and is available in green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue and silver.
