Apple executive: iPad will not compete with Mac and want to experience both

Not long ago, Apple released a new iPad Pro, but the iPad will not compete with the MacBook Pro. Although the latest M4 chip powers the iPad Pro, surpassing some MacBooks in hardware strength, iPadOS still limits its potential. As a result, it cannot easily replace the MacBook Pro, leading many to call for Apple to remove these system restrictions.

However, Apple does not seem to move, and the company said that these two devices are complementary. In other words, Apple recommends that consumers buy both. All evaluations mentioned that iPadOS didn’t fully utilize the hardware capabilities of the new iPad Air and iPad Pro.

However, Joanna Stern, the Wall Street Journal, proposed to Apple executives that the limitation of iPad will not compete under iPad’s. She pointed out that although the performance of the new iPad Pro can actually surpass the MacBook Pro in some cases, she thinks it cannot be someone’s only computer.

Tom Boger, Vice President of Apple iPad and Mac product marketing, told her, “We don’t think they are competitive devices. We think they are complementary devices.” He explained that Apple’s concept of the iPad has always been based on touch. In contrast, Mac devices use “indirect control,” even when the keyboard and touchpad are used for operation.

Stern asked Bog, whether Apple would change his mind and launch a form of touch screen MAC. Pogg replied: “I can’t say that we will never change their minds.” It has been rumored about touch screen MAC for many years.

Bog did not disclose the information or respond to rumors in 2022. There were rumors that Apple might run macOS on the iPad with an M2 processor. However, it seems this is more of an ideal expectation.
