First quarter tablet shipment rankings announced: Huawei surpasses Apple to rank first

In addition to this significant development, the personal computer (PC) market in mainland China, including desktops, notebooks, and workstations, is expected to shrink by 1% in 2024, with shipments falling by 12% in the first quarter. However, desktop shipments are expected to perform well, with an annual growth rate of 10%. Canalys also forecasts a 5% decline in full-year notebook computer shipments.

Huawei

Canalys pointed out that China’s PC market recovery is not following global trends. While the market performance is average in 2024, it is expected to improve in 2025, with shipments projected to grow by 12%.

AI promotion is expected to boost both the PC and tablet markets. Although notebook and desktop shipments dropped by 13% and 11% in the first quarter, the tablet market grew by 22%. Huawei surpassing Apple to rank first, continuing to update its tablet portfolio. It launched the MatePad SE series for budget-conscious users and the MatePad Pro series for premium users. Other manufacturers have also launched new devices and AI applications to enhance tablets.

In the first quarter, Huawei was followed by Apple with a market share of 27%. The gap with Huawei surpassing Apple was smaller, but its annual growth rate was -3%.
